My Experience as an Intern at Marketing Eye
My Experience as an Intern at Marketing Eye
Becoming an intern was not something I was really planning on this year. A class at university assigned us the task of creating a fake application for a role. An internship at Marketing Eye appealed to me, so before submitting the hypothetical assignment I was sure to put in my resume for real: and how incredibly grateful I am for doing so!Entering the workforce in your desired field can seem like an incredibly exciting yet daunting task. It’s difficult to establish where to begin, where your current capabilities/skillset are at and what you’re interested in even doing. The reality remains that the only way you’re going to find out is to give something a try.
An internship turned out to be a wonderful way of exploring where my skills and interests lie without needing to commit to a more permanent role. I have greater clarity of where I want my career to go now, something I wouldn’t have known from if I had only continued to wonder about it from the comfort of my existing parameter. I’ve been able to commit to this internship while continuing my studies full time, and it’s been game-changing to solidify my learning by putting it into action at the internship.
Marketing Eye has challenged me to learn something new every single day. It can be a formidable challenge to confront the unknown but it comes with the reward of expanding your abilities. Through my experience, I can truly say I have greater confidence in myself and a greater appreciation for the value of learning.
Some of the skills I’ve obtained in this time include writing blog posts, scheduling social media calendars and creating social media posts, creating databases, searching for opportunities in events and in various forms of media, comparing competitors and so much more. Working for an agency allows you to learn about the differing needs of various businesses and how to adapt your approach to best suit that.
The challenges of the current environment have meant moving from the agency in South Yarra to working from home. I’m blessed to have had the opportunity to meet the team face-to-face at the start of the internship and to have their ongoing support while working from home.
Every experience has the ability to push you in the direction of what’s right for you. The only way to grow is to take a risk and put yourself out there. I warmly encourage anyone at the beginning stages of their career or thinking about a career change, to open their mind and try an internship.
