How small businesses are getting burnt by dodgy web developers
There is no point in having a website that is poorly designed, with no information and that doesn't take into account the customer experience.
Marketing Eye is being inundated with calls to fix up websites that have been developed on the cheap by online optimisation companies that simply provide a template not capable of enhancing your businesses connection with customers.
Templates for small businesses
WordPress has some great templates for small businesses where you can insert text and images, but these templates being used are by-passing even WordPress and don't have any advantage to the company. Basically, they are taking the money and running. What small businesses need to take into account when looking for a website developer is the ability to tell their story online and give customers and prospects an experience with their brand that is consistent. A website needs to have images that reflect the brand, content that is well-written and tells the story with call to actions at every touchpoint. It also needs to be easy to navigate, fast and be search engine optimised.
It's disappointing that businesses exist particularly in this current market, that get away with treating customers in this way. Right now, every business needs a leg-up on their marketing and to spend money where they literally can't use the website provided is disheartening.
Doing the right due diligence by seeing other websites in which a company has developed is important. Don't believe their sales spiel online and definitely do not believe the Google Ratings, because companies in third-world countries not only can have people sitting doing up fake ratings at $2 per hour, they also go into competitor ratings and write fake negative reviews and always give a 1/5 rating.
