The King of Spin
I know that coming from a woman that this can be seen as quite harsh, but I am just expressing my honest appraisal of these things.
Today, splashed over every newspaper in the world is Shane Warne pashing Liz Hurley. Now, from a branding perspective, he could not have done much better. Perhaps, if he had pashed Oprah he might have, but let’s face it, there is few in the league of Ms Hurley. She did become famous (from what I could see) for being the partner of the incredibly likeable Hugh Grant, and milked it for all it was worth, but she has now been around for a long time and most have forgotten that.
Many would not know what she actually does with her time other than she is in a lot of fancy dresses at the top events around the world.
Nevertheless, Warnie has scored a pay-day. He has a show that many people like even if he is a little nervous and has had a little makeover. No-one will forget him sitting down for a chat with James Packer and how at ease he was with Chris Martin from Coldplay. I had a tinge of jealousy over that one, because I am a fan of Coldplay and for me, they are the Beatles of our era. Many of course would disagree but I am just putting it out there!
Warnie’s value globally has just gone up in droves and it will be interesting to see how this story unravels. His show will benefit and all the companies that he endorses products for will benefit. It really is gold! Brand Warnie will benefit immensely from the publicity and it will give him a leap up in the branding stakes that will catapult him to new heights.
Good on ya Warnie!
