Sitting around the table, it's amazing what you can learn
It's no secret that I have taken a few days off. For a start, my social media accounts have come to a stop and I am not checking my emails. Instead I am giving myself time to think and soak up the atmosphere of Christmas and family, without disruptions.
I won't lie by saying that I don't want to do all of these things, but I know that in order to give 2014 my best shot, that I will need to have a few days off and really get back to grassroots.
Not so surprising is the fact that as a trail of people come through the door at my brothers property in Queensland, I am inundated with smart, creative, risk-taking entrepreneurs who are all ready to put it all on the table to realize their dreams.
The reality is that I am not quite "that type of entrepreneur" and instead, I am going through the reverse. I am thinking about what I really want in life. It's been a great ride and I have thoroughly enjoyed everything I have done, but is there more to life and should I be embracing other things that are not related to business?
I wonder how many other people take time to reflect on what they have achieved and what they want to achieve only to find that they are more puzzled than when they first started.
Food for thought.
Merry Christmas to all my blog readers. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read this blog and send comments, emails and share with your friends and followers. I really appreciate it and look forward to sharing more experiences with you in 2014.

10 Jan 2014Gone are the days of committing to work with a large organisation, starting at the ground floor and working your way slowly up the corporate ladder; doing largely the same work until you eventually retire. The modern corporate environment is giving us a chance to constantly review our decisions, change employer, even change industry as we both reach the natural conclusion that the naieve perceptions we hold for each position wildly differ from what the job truly entails, and as the work we once enjoyed becomes tedious and repetitive when our employer cannot match our desire for variety. With fewer boundaries to mixing and matching our careers to achieve variety and keep ourselves happy (a trait which is far too commonly overlooked when making career decisions) it is healthy to continually ask the important questions and assess ourselves. It leads to better, more informed decisions and a more fulfilling career.

02 Jan 2014As time goes, we start to a move into a more dynamic and fast-paced environment. I think that having a time to step back and digest everything that has happened so far, properly, would help us to find clarity as we make decisions this year.
ReplyI agree with Wesley, it's important that our work has meaning and define that meaning. To have that clarity of Why we do what we do can make a huge difference to this coming year.
Hope everyone had a good holiday so far!

26 Dec 2013It is important to reflect on what you want in life and your goals. As we're always so busy, it is good to sometimes put way your technological devices, take a break from work and just ponder about what you want to achieve and what you want out of life and your career. Sometimes people just work to live when it is important that your work has meaning and you realise what the meaning is.
ReplyIt is also important to reflect back over this year and look what you have achieved and also what you need to make improvements on next year, in other words assess yourself.
That's my thought. Merry Christmas Mellissah and other readers!
