GOALS VS ACTIONS
A new year means many things to many people. If you are an entrepreneur and it is a new financial year, your goals will tend to be around business. Alternatively, 1st of January tends to be a combination of personal and professional goals.
As I look back on the year we have just had, I smile. Why? I think it is more to do with growing – as a person and as an entrepreneur.
The description has never been more apt, as I have taken a new step in my business developmental phase and have “possession of an enterprise, venture and idea, whereby I am accountable for all inherent risks and outcomes”. Now to some that may seem scary, but to me it is exciting. The adrenalin rushes through my body at the sheer mention of the new and exciting things that Marketing Eye is doing in the upcoming year.
We have come a long way, and that journey has been filled of adventure, learnings, people, obstacles, slaps across the wrist and feelings of sheer joy, enthusiasm and fulfilment.
I didn’t start out wanting to be an entrepreneur and all those years ago when I joined an organisation called the Young Entrepreneurs Organisation, I remember distinctively cringing when someone referred to me as such. Coming from a marketing background, the same sense of feeling used to occur when someone would ask if I was in sales. Then eventually, I learned from an old Channel 7 boss that ‘without sales, no-one has a job’ and that word became something I celebrated rather than the opposite.
2011/12 is going to be a challenge. From all accounts, they say the economy isn’t fairing too well and will only get worse, and I know from previous experience that marketing is one of the first things to go particularly when small business owners are scared about what the future holds.
More than ever before, education is paramount. Both for me as a business owner and for our clients who need to know that by marketing in a down-turn will make their business stand out from the rest.
I wrote a blog this week on positivity (link) and today is a new day, a new financial year and there is every reason to celebrate and be enthusiastic about what the world has to offer us.
Being innovative is key to success. Standing out from the crowd and being on-brand – are others.
Opening yourself up to new technologies and how they will help you fast-track your business, improve efficiencies, better connect with your clients and create an environment that fosters growth.
With your marketing strategy in hand, start this financial year, ready to achieve all your business goals and your personal ones too. If you have time, think about what else you can do to help others. Charities like www.ozchild.org.au need your help and if you don’t have time, your money will do!
And work on being a better person; that means showing kindness.
